Privacy Policy

ScholarXP Middle ("we", "our", or "us") is a school-break learning app designed for students in grades 6–8 (approximately ages 11–14). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights — including the rights of guardians under applicable children's privacy laws.

For Guardians: ScholarXP Middle is intended to be used by children under the supervision of a guardian. All accounts are created using a guardian email address. We require explicit consent from a guardian before creating any account. We do not allow children to create accounts on their own.

Children's Privacy — COPPA Notice

ScholarXP Middle is directed to children under 13 and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not collect personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian.

When creating an account, the guardian must:

Provide their own email address (not the child's)
Create a password for the account
Actively check a consent box confirming they are a guardian aged 18+ and consent to their child's learning progress being stored

By checking that box and creating an account, the guardian provides verifiable consent for the limited data collection described in this policy.

What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to make the app work:

Guardian email address — used to create and sign into the account. This is always a guardian email, never the child's.
Learning progress data — XP earned, activities completed, reading progress, book report answers, grade level, and break type. This is stored so progress syncs across devices.
Guardian PIN — if set by the guardian, stored to protect the guardian summary view within the app.

We do not collect: the child's name, age, location, phone number, photos, device identifiers, or any payment information.

How We Use This Information

To sync the child's learning progress across devices when the guardian signs in
To display XP, reading progress, and activity history within the app
To allow a guardian to review book report answers through the guardian summary view

We do not use any collected data for advertising, behavioral profiling, analytics beyond the app itself, or any commercial purpose unrelated to providing the app's core features.

Third Parties

ScholarXP Middle uses Firebase (a Google service) for account authentication and data storage. The guardian email address and learning progress data are stored on Firebase servers. Firebase is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third party for any purpose.

Firebase does not use children's data for advertising or cross-context behavioral tracking.

Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit). Your app data is protected by Firestore security rules that ensure each account can only access its own data — no other user, and no one on our team, can read or modify your child's progress data.

Guardian Rights

As a guardian, you have the right to:

Review the personal information collected about your child at any time by signing into the app
Delete your child's account and all associated data at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete my account), or by contacting us directly
Refuse further collection by deleting the account — no data will be retained after deletion
Withdraw consent at any time; continued use of the app after withdrawal is not possible without an account, and deletion removes all data
Contact us with any questions, concerns, or requests about your child's data

Data Retention

Your child's data is retained as long as the account exists. Deleting the account (from within the app or by contacting us) permanently removes all associated data from our systems. We do not retain backups of deleted accounts.

Google Play Families Program

ScholarXP Middle participates in Google Play's Designed for Families program. In accordance with this program:

The app contains no advertising of any kind
The app does not collect data beyond what is described in this policy
All content is appropriate for children in grades 6–8
Guardian consent is required before any account is created

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes that affect how we collect or use children's data will be communicated to the email address on file before taking effect. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
